Heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the U.S. February is American Heart Month, and Dr. Lisa Young provides some vital nutritional tips to help keep your heart healthy.

1.  Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a good source of soluble fiber and contains beta-glucans, which help lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar levels. Onehalf-cup serving provides about 4.5 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber.
